Question: Why write a blog about change?
Answer: Because it is all around us, all the time, and it seems to be getting faster.
The nature of change and how it affects us as human beings has been a subject of exploration for at least 3,000 years. We know this because Heraclitus wrote and thought about it even before Socrates. We know this because Siddhartha Gautama left his family and founded an entire religion around the relationship between change and suffering.
Common perception is that the pace of change is speeding up on a global scale. The world is shrinking through communications technology and increased travel. Cultures are becoming intertwined and evolving rapidly.
I know the world is changing fast. What can I do about it?
That is the fundamental question behind this blog. As individuals, we have limited spheres of influence. For most of us, those spheres are:
- Our organizations
- Our relationships
- Our communities
- Our own hearts and minds
Never the Same River Twice is a place to explore how we can act in our spheres of influence to deal with change in ways that are healthy, useful, and maybe even fun. ![]()
I hope you find this blog interesting and useful. Please feel free to make comments and suggestions; submit sites, books, or tools for review; and call me out when I get it wrong.
